Servicing Your Gas Hob

You should ensure your gas appliances are serviced as regularly as the manufacturer’s instructions dictate – or annually (unless your Gas Safe-registered engineer advises differently).

A regular gas hob service won’t just keep you and your family safe; it’ll also ensure your stovetop is in good, working order - which is exactly what you need, with Christmas mere days away.

It’s vital to ensure your service is carried out by a Gas Safe Engineer - find a local one via this link

How to Clean Your Gas Hob

This is where your manufacturer’s instructions will come in handy once again. Make sure you clean your gas hob in line with the directions supplied with your appliance and clean as regularly as required and/or stated.

Natural Hob Cleaning Solutions

If you’re looking for some natural solutions to rid your stovetop of grease and stains, the Real Simple site has some options. Don’t forget to refer to your manufacturer’s instructions before using anything new on your hob, though; in some instances, even natural solutions might be too harsh for your kitchen appliances.

One of the options via the Real Simple site is distilled white vinegar, a real hero product when it comes to cleaning. The site advises waiting until the stovetop is cool before you attempt to clean it.

You’ll then whip up a natural cleaner using distilled white vinegar, hot water, and half a teaspoon of washing-up liquid. While the site uses US measurements, you can convert them to mLs here.

Once you’ve added the natural ingredients to an empty spray bottle, give it a shake and begin using it to clean up your kitchen mess. It can be used for daily or weekly cleaning and you simply spray on the cleaner, let it sit for a couple of minutes and use a non-abrasive sponge to wipe the stovetop.

Then, just rinse the sponge and wipe away any of the remaining natural cleaning solution, before drying the surface with a lint-free, microfibre cloth.

Generally, though, your manufacturer’s instructions should provide a rough guide – and with the right care and attention, you should get plenty of years of life from your trusty gas hob. The House Beautiful site offers its own guide – have a peek.
