For the Perfect Picnic, Try These…

Last week was National Picnic Week – and the opportunity to get outside and enjoy some homemade treats has given us all food for thought here in the My Appliances office. Seriously though, picnics shouldn’t be confined to one week and one week only!

With that in mind, we’re celebrating summer – and the fact there are still plenty of weeks left of it – by bringing you some of the tastiest picnic food recipes we’ve found online. You’re a lucky lot, aren’t you?

Lemon Sherbert Jammy Dodgers

Oooh, Jammy Dodgers – could they be any more British?! We love the look of these lemon sherbet ones over on the BBC Good Food site. They’re taking us right back to our childhood – and we can’t wait to give them a go.

Picnic Pie

Also on the BBC Good Food site is this tasty-looking picnic pie – and what would a picnic be without pie? The great thing about this savoury treat – apart from being really filling – is that it can be stored in the freezer. What that means for you is you’ll always have something to whip out should some impromptu alfresco foodie fun crop up.

Jamie Oliver’s Picnic Four Ways

Ah, Jamie Oliver – we knew we could rely on him on the picnic front! He doesn’t just stop at one recipe over on the site, you know. Instead, he’s offering four ways to do the Great British picnic properly, with suggestions including scotch eggs (everyone’s favourite picnic item, surely?) and Eton Mess for afters – yum!

Cornflake Chicken Bites

Cornflakes and chicken, you say? Are you sure? That’s just one of the quirky picnic recipes to be found over on The Guardian site. The team at the newspaper has put together 101 picnic recipes for you to try this summer, which means you’ll never be short of ideas. Plus, if the weather’s not playing ball, you can bring the fun inside; just grab a picnic blanket and lay out your food in front of the TV – we don’t let a spot of rain spoil our fun here at My Appliances you know.

Crab Sticks

Who remembers opening their lunch box at school to find a solitary shop-bought crab stick or two? Well, move over soggy supermarket crab sticks; these homemade ones look simply scrummy – and they’re just perfect for your family picnic.

Not planning a picnic? Give these a go ahead of a fancy dinner party; they make a great snack to hand round before the starters and they’re versatile, rich and wonderfully flavourful too.

Salmon Sandwich Stacks

Sticking with a fishy theme here, what picnic would be complete without sandwiches? We love the look of these salmon ones via the Good Housekeeping site too. Plus, if you don’t like fish you can simply replace the salmon with cucumber – how very fancy! In fact, salmon and cucumber together makes a great combination for a sandwich – why not make some up for an at-home afternoon tea with friends?

Like what you see here? Make sure you keep an eye on the My Appliances blog over the coming weeks for more of the same.
