Get Ready for Christmas

With only 5 weeks to go, the festive season is really and truly upon us! If you are anything like us here at MyAppliances you will be as excited as we are for Christmas and will already be thinking and prepping what you need to do for the big day.

Now no one wants to be slaving over the stove all day when you could be enjoying the time with your loved ones so it is always important to work out what can be prepped in advance for the christmas dinner so all you need to do on the day is enjoy eating it!

Here is our guide to how you can prep all the sides you need for the best christmas yet!

Gravy

You can make your gravy well in advance, there is no stopping you making it a month in advance, freezing it and getting it out Christmas Eve ready for the next day. This saves you a lot of time especially if you are making it from scratch.

Veggies

The vegetables (apart from the roasties of course!) are usually the least of everyone’s worries on christmas day as they do not take much time to sort, however that is not to say that peeling, chopping and leaving in cold water overnight won’t speed up the cooking process on the day!

Sausage, Sage and Onion Stuffing

Stuffing can be made the day before and refrigerated,  just make sure it is baked through but if you are planning to put in the bird, do not do this the day before.

Yorkshire Puddings

Yorkshire pudding batter never takes long to prepare but it is just another element that can add to your timings on the day. So why not prepare the batter the night before and save yourself the whisking on Christmas Day! Alternatively you can make the yorkshire puddings a month in advance, put them in an air tight container and freeze for up to 1 month. From frozen you can then just heat them up for around 6 to 8 minutes!

Pigs in Blankets

You can easily prep your pigs in blankets the night beforehand, place them on a tray, cover and put them in the fridge the night before ready for cooking the next day.

Bread Sauce

Christmas day is not complete without a hearty serving of bread sauce on the side of your plate. This can be made a few days in advance, put into an air tight container and stored in the fridge before Christmas Day. Alternatively you can freeze it up to a month in advance, just make sure it is defrosted fully before tucking in!

So get thinking and prepping now, work out what you can do in advance to ensure all you need to do on Christmas Day is sit back, relax and enjoy a glass of bubbly…. or 2!
